Safe Hands Funeral Plans is pleased to announce a new partnership with leading UK cancer charity Macmillan Cancer Support, which aims to raise crucial funds to ensure the charity can continue to provide vital care and do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer.
The new partnership, which will be in place for at least three years with a target of raising £1,000,000, will focus on supporting those affected by cancer throughout the bereavement process.
Safe Hands Funeral Plans aim to build on Macmillan’s work of encouraging people to have open conversations about death. Talking about death in advance can offer people the freedom to get on with living, knowing that they’ve shared their wishes, and that vital paperwork is sorted and easy to find for loved ones.
A recent survey* revealed that the majority (94%) of people who have recently organised a funeral found the bereavement process stressful, with arranging the funeral itself the most distressing part. Two-fifths (40%) of those surveyed said they suffered from mental health issues because of the process.
In the UK, almost one in two people will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime**, and alongside physical and mental health fears, cancer can cost people their jobs, financial security and even their homes. The money raised goes towards funding Macmillan nurses, to provide vital clinical support to people living with cancer.
The funeral plan provider will donate £31 for each of their prepaid funeral plans bought, which will fund a Macmillan nurse for an hour. Additionally, for each customer who purchases directly from Safe Hands quoting ‘MAC50’, they will be gifted a £50 discount. Customers can choose to use the discount for themselves or donate it directly to Macmillan via Safe Hands’ JustGiving page.
Tom Gormanly, Chief Executive at Safe Hands Plans, said;
“As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility objectives and Community Support aims, we wanted to partner with an organisation close to all of our hearts. An organisation we could support locally and nationally.
“I had my own experience with cancer to deal with last year and it was comforting to know Macmillan were there. Alongside the donation for each of our funeral plans purchased, we will also be running, cycling, baking and doing whatever it takes to support this wonderful cause.”
Natasha Parker, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Macmillan Cancer Support, said:
“The pandemic has been an acutely challenging time for people with cancer, who need us now, more than ever before. Every penny raised through our new partnership with Safe Hands helps fund our vital support services, at a time when our income faces a significant drop.
“The money raised by Safe Hands will help Macmillan continue to do whatever it takes to be there for people living with cancer now and in the future, and we are so grateful for their commitment and support.”
